Police: Mom tosses child in car seat

No injuries reported to 9-month-old girl

YOUNGSTOWN — A Columbus woman was arrested early Thursday on a child endangering charge after police said she became angry and threw a child car seat across the room with her 9-month-old daughter in it.

The police officer who responded to the 12:10 a.m. call in the 2700 block of Hammaker Avenue stated he checked the baby, and she appeared to be “normal.” An ambulance was also called and attendants also checked the baby and found no apparent injury, the report states.

Deneisha Dickson, 25, was arraigned via a video hookup from the jail on Friday. She pleaded not guilty and bond was set at $2,500, according to court records. Additional conditions of bond include that Dickson attend parenting and anger management classes as well as undergo a mental health assessment.

Dickson’s case was assigned to Municipal Judge Renee M DiSalvo, who set a pretrial hearing for Nov. 7, court records state.

Police reported Dickson was in Youngstown to visit the father of her child. Witnesses told police that the woman started arguing with the father of the baby and the man left.

According to police reports, Dickson became angry when she was not allowed to take her daughter out of the house. Witnesses told police the woman then picked up the car seat with the baby in it and heaved the seat across the living room.
