Boardman man named in 15-count indictment

YOUNGSTOWN — A Boardman man was named in a 15-count felony indictment Thursday stemming from a September shootout with authorities on Market Street in Boardman.

Stephen B. Wilson, 52, faces 10 counts of felonious assault, one count of discharge of firearm on or near prohibited premises, possession of a weapon as a felon, obstructing official business and two counts of vandalism.

Police reports state Boardman officers and patrol troopers shot Wilson after authorities say the man fired a handgun in the middle of Market Street shortly after midnight Sept. 7.

He was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and has since recovered from his wound. Wilson is now housed at the Mahoning County Justice Center. Prior to the September incident, Wilson gave his address as the Traveler’s Inn in Boardman.

Reports stated Wilson was walking in the road with a handgun. When officers told the man to drop the gun, he refused. That’s when the man fired his gun and was hit by return fire.

Six Boardman officers and four troopers were on the scene, the report states, and no officers were hurt.

If found guilty of all charges, Wilson could face a potentially long prison sentence.

All of the assault charges are first-degree felonies, which carry a maximum sentence of 11 years in prison. The vandalism charges are fifth-degree felonies, which carry a maximum of one year each. Wilson also faces repeat violent offender specifications with each of the assault charges as well as firearm specifications. These carry mandatory prison terms of three and seven years each.
