Woman finds shooting victim on porch

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — A West Princeton Avenue woman said she checked to see what was wrong after hearing banging on her front door at 3:46 a.m. Tuesday and found a man who said he had been shot in the back.

Initially, she told Andy Dicioccio, 35, of Canfield Road that he “didn’t look shot,” but Dicioccio showed her blood on his hand. She also saw blood underneath him and called 911.

Dicioccio was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Police say Dicioccio told them he was out taking a walk and “blowing off anxiety” when he was hit by gunfire. He had been released from the Mahoning County jail the day before, according to jail records.

Dicioccio told police he didn’t know the street he was on when he was shot or who did it, a police report says. The police department’s shot-spotter system indicated gunfire not far from Dicioccio’s home on Canfield Road at about the same time he appeared on the porch.
