WHAT: Board of Education meeting Tuesday
PRESENT: Walter Baber, Mary Carcelli, Dennis Johnson, Robert Noble and Ron Shives
The board:
• Approved hiring Stacy Drennen and Taralynn Markotan as paraprofessionals, both through June 2. Drennen will be paid $12,613 for 178 days and Markotan will be paid $10,097 for 171 days;
• Approved the financial report for August;
• Approved the donation list to the capital campaign through Sept. 13;
• Approved a service agreement between St. Nicholas School and Mastriana Counseling Services, LLC using funds from the auxiliary services;
• Approved Home Savings advertising on the video scoreboard at the high school football stadium;
• Accepted a donation of an American flag from Brian McNally for the football stadium;
• Approved the appointment of Joan M. Jones as school counselor;
• Approved the appointment of Paula Angelo for the position of elementary school tutor at $18 per hour;
• Approved the appointment of Elizabeth Bodine for the position of tutor at Holy Family at $18 per hour;
• Appointed staff members Pat Gaia and Frank Pape to the Resident Educator Program for the 2019-20 school year at $600 per year;
• Accepted the resignation of bus driver Dale Mazzocco, effective Sept. 15;
• Approved hiring full-time bus driver Marko Morgan at $74.84 per day;
• Approved hiring bus driver Melanie Riccelli, for a half-time position at $37.42 per day;
• Approved the following staff funded by United Way: Jackie Burris and Sally Zorzi, both head cooks; and bus driver, Kathy Sullivan;
• Approved the following substitute staff: Ariene Humphrey, cafeteria, custodian and paraprofessional; Ron Molinari, custodian; Dale Mazzocco, bus driver; Karen Rinehart, cafeteria, custodian, paraprofessional and health professional; Megan Szalay, health professional; Mary Ann Valley, custodian; and Marie Wess Calzo, cafeteria;
• Approved Nicole Politsky as Spanish Club adviser at $713 per year;
• Approved hiring boys basketball assistant coaches William Kohl at $4,996.60 and Jason Pangio at $3,925.90;
• Approved a request from band director Joshua Hawkins to take the marching band to Washington, D.C. May 24-25 to perform in the Memorial Day parade;
• Approved a request from Struthers Middle School principal Dave Vecchione to take the eighth grade to Washington, D.C. May 18-20;
• Approved a facility use request by the OHSAA for Division III girls basketball tournament on Feb. 26 and 29, and Division IV boys basketball tournament March 2-3 and March 6; Approved the appointment of Dr. Ed Lancy to help with vision screenings for the 2019-2020 school year.

Council:
• Approved the auditor transferring $75,000 from the general fund to the police pension fund;
• Approved the auditor transferring $65,000 from the general fund to the fire pension fund;
• Approved a plan to use the solid waste management plan for the Mahoning County Solid Waste Management District;
• Approved a resolution in which Struthers will cooperate with the Ohio Department of Transportation, which will provide bridge inspection services.
