Liberty police chief files response to federal lawsuit

YOUNGSTOWN — Lawyers for Liberty Township police Chief Toby Meloro and Capt. Steve Shimko have responded to the federal lawsuit filed against them and the township over the Aug. 2, 2017, death of Loraine Lynn and the township police investigation conducted into her death.

The suit states the death was inadequately investigated.

The 12-page filing gives 19 defenses to the allegations, such as the woman’s death was partially or fully negligence of others. It states the defendants “acted reasonably, in good faith, upon the advice of counsel, in accordance with law and/or in the exercise of his statutory duties and responsibilities.”

It also asks that the lawsuit be dismissed.
