YOUNGSTOWN — Keion Stella, 37, of Dunstan Drive Northwest in Warren, will be 87 years old before he can be released from prison after getting 15 years added to his sentence Monday for raping an ex-girlfriend in Youngstown.

He received a 35-year prison sentence last November in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court for raping two other females in Warren within days of his Mahoning County crimes.

Judge Maureen Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court agreed to a plea agreement between Mahoning County prosecutors and Stella that he get 15 years added to the earlier 35 years for a total of 50.

Stella pleaded guilty Monday to 10 counts of rape and two of kidnapping for going to an ex-girlfriend’s home in October 2017, where the woman allowed him inside to talk. The victim’s two boys were in the home.

The boys were duct taped, then Stella repeatedly raped the woman, prosecutors said.

In court Monday, the woman told Judge Sweeney it was “the worst day of my life” and caused her to have nightmares and seek counseling.

One of the worst things was Stella’s telling the boys that they should “shut up or I will kill your mother,” she said, adding, “Do you know how scary it is for a child to see a gun pointed at his mother’s head and think she is going to die?” The boys also have received counseling.

The case is puzzling because Stella’s attorney, Ron Yarwood, and assistant Prosecutor Jennifer McLaughlin agree that Stella had no previous criminal record before what McLaughlin called Stella’s “violent, sadistic crime spree.”

Between the Warren and Youngstown crimes, he could have gotten more than 400 years in prison if he had gone to trial and been convicted of all charges.

Yarwood said Stella had been driving around over the course of several days without sleep around the time of the crimes.

In the Warren case, he raped another former girlfriend and her teenage daughter and forced both females to watch the other being raped.

“I am truly sorry. I never meant to hurt anyone,” Stella told the judge.
