Store owner fires on alleged robbers
YOUNGSTOWN — A Youngstown store owner shot two men alleged to be involved in an armed robbery at his store Saturday afternoon.
The men are hospitalized in critical condition at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
The incident occurred just before 2 p.m. at Conroy’s Party Shop, 3518 South Ave., Youngstown police said.
The men approached the store employees bearing weapons, according to Youngstown police.
Robbery suspects Dalan Reynolds and Hawley Warren were taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, according to a police report.
“Two men entered the store with their guns out,” said Youngstown police Sgt. Ed Kenney. “When they stepped towards store employees, the store owner was forced to fire on them to protect his employees.”
Two other suspects are reported to have left the scene, according to Kenney.
Between a dozen and two dozen people were in the area during the shooting, some even in the store.
No customers nor store employees were injured during the altercation.
There was no record of anyone related to the robbery being booked into the Mahoning County Jail late Saturday.
