Brown Senate campaign reports record $30.6M in third quarter
The reelection campaign of U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown reported it raised a record $30.6 million during the third quarter – another record amount for an Ohio candidate.
“Sherrod has a proven track record fighting for Ohioans, whether it’s fighting for a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions or saving the pensions of over 100,000 Ohio workers – and that’s why he has unprecedented momentum going into the final month of his campaign,” said Rachel Petri, his campaign manager.
Petri added: “Sherrod and Connie (Schultz, his wife) are grateful to every supporter and volunteer working to make sure Sherod can keep fighting for all Ohioans.”
Brown, a Democrat, is in the most expensive and one of the most competitive Senate races in the country, facing Republican Bernie Moreno in the Nov. 5 election. The race could decide which political party has the majority in the Senate.
Campaign finance reports for the July-to-September filing period aren’t due until 11:59 p.m. Tuesday with the Federal Election Commission.
Moreno’s campaign hasn’t announced his fundraising totals for the third quarter.
Not including the third quarter, Brown raised $53 million for this campaign, including $12.8 million in the second quarter. Moreno raised a total of $15.3 million, including $4.4 million in the second quarter.
Moreno and more importantly, outside special interest groups, spent about $70 million to $35 million for Brown and his supporters through most of September, according to NBC News.
Between the March 19 primary and Aug. 31, Democrats spent more on this race: $78.5 million to $59 million for Republicans.
