Judge sentences two of three defendants in Rowan killing to life sentences
YOUNGSTOWN — Judge Anthony D’Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court had harsh words for defendant Kimonie Bryant, 27, today while sentencing him to the agreed-upon sentence of 20 years to life in prison for his role as the “lynchpin” in a robbery plan that resulted in 4-year-old Rowan Sweeney being shot to death Sept. 21, 2020, at a home on Perry Street in Struthers.
The judge likewise told co-defendant Andre McCoy Jr., 24, in his sentencing earlier today that his role was central in the killing because he hatched the plan and communicated it to Bryant, who showed up at the home with the third co-defendant, Brandon Crump Jr., 21. Crump, who will be sentenced at 2 p.m. July 29. Prosecutors believe Crump was the one who fired the fatal shots and also shot four adults in the home, including McCoy, while Bryant remained in the car.
