Male, 22, found dead behind apartments on East Side

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Police Department is reporting the shooting death of a 22-year-old man whose body was found this morning behind a row of apartments in the 600 block of McBride Street on the East Side.

The apartment complex is called Victory Estates. No arrests have been made, the police department stated in a press release.

When officers arrived, they summoned ambulance personnel, who pronounced the man dead from an apparent gunshot wound. The Youngstown Police Department is calling it a homicide. The matter was reported at 5:42 a.m., the news release states.

The Youngstown Police Department detective division and crime scene unit were called to investigate, and the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office is part of the investigation.

The police department asks that anyone with information call the police department at 330-746-8973 or Crime Stoppers at 330-746-2583 to provide tips or information, which can be left anonymously.

Tips leading to an arrest and/or prosecution are eligible for a monetary reward.

The death is the fifth homicide in the past 10 days, including the 1 a.m. Thursday shooting death of Mathue O’Malley, 27, in the 100 block of South Maryland Avenue by Youngstown police. Today’s homicide is the 13th of the year in the city.

The city had 22 homicides in 2023.
