$4.8M sewer design contract approved

YOUNGSTOWN – The city’s board of control approved a $4.8 million contract today with MS Consultants Inc. – using American Rescue Plan funds – to design an interceptor sewer to stop wastewater from flowing into Mill Creek Park.

The board also voted today to approve a $443,652 contract for basement vault remediation under a portion of Federal Street so an improvement project above ground can be done and a $41,200 deal for an architectural firm to design and prepare bid documents for work on city hall’s second floor.

The $4.8 million contract with MS is to do detailed design work for the first two of the project’s four phases as well as preliminary design work for the third and fourth phases, said Charles Shasho, deputy director of public works.

The interceptor sewer work will cost about $70 million and start in either 2025 or 2026 and take about six or seven years to complete.
