Sat. 4 p.m.: Youngstown school official charged with domestic violence

LIBERTY – Chivas Whipple, the Youngstown school district’s dean of students and head boys basketball coach at East High School, is facing a charge of domestic violence after his arrest this morning.

Liberty police Chief Toby Meloro confirmed today that Whipple was charged related to an incident with a family member.

Meloro said more information would be available Monday at the earliest, adding, “There’s a lot to it.”

Whipple, 44, of Liberty, was booked into the Trumbull County jail and then released, according to information on the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office website.

Whipple was placed on paid administrative leave by the school district after his arrest, according to reports. Youngstown City School District spokeswoman Stacy Quinones could not be reached for further comment.
