YOUNGSTOWN — The jurors in the Brandon Crump Jr. aggravated murder trial heard almost two hours of closing arguments this afternoon and are now hearing jury instructions before beginning deliberations.

The closing arguments addressed the evidence the jurors heard, the reasons why the defense thinks prosecutors did not prove the case against Crump and the reasons why the prosecution believes Crump is guilty.

There was no testimony from witnesses today. The final witness was late Tuesday, and neither the prosecution or defense decided to put any additional witnesses on the stand.

Crump, 21, is accused of killing 4-year-old Rowan Sweeney and shooting four other adults Sept. 21, 2020, in a home in Struthers. Text messages recovered by investigators indicated that the incident began as a robbery, but ended very differently.

Starting at $3.23/week.
