Sunday 5:10 pm: Teen arrested in Austintown homicide
AUSTINTOWN — A 17-year-old boy is in the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center on a charge of homicide in connection to a shooting Friday night at the Compass West apartment complex.
According to a news release by police Chief Robert Gavalier, a person of interest was developed early in the case after detectives interviewed witnesses at the scene and followed up on leads. The teen was taken into custody late Saturday.
His name has not yet been released.
Gavalier said the investigation is ongoing and police still are looking for witnesses who may have more information about what occurred late Friday. He said because the case is still active and other individuals may be charged, no further comment will be made at this time.
