Sat. 5 p.m.: One dead, one injured in Austintown shooting
AUSTINTOWN — A man who was shot in an apartment parking lot at 990 Compass West Drive Friday night following an altercation has died.
The Austintown Police Department said it got a call about a physical altercation in the parking lot at 10:07 p.m. A short time later, someone called again and reported shots were fired.
Austintown officers arrived to a “chaotic scene, where two persons were shot, a man and a woman.” Initial reports stated that two suspects fled on foot after the shooting.
The man, whose identity is not being released, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and later died at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. The woman underwent surgery and is being treated, according to an Austintown police press release.
The man’s name will be released by the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office after notification of relatives.
One man was detained and brought back to the Austintown Police Department, where he was interviewed and released. No suspect has been named at this time, the news release states.
