Mon. 10:25 a.m.: Poland home explodes into inferno, coroner called

Firefighters roll up their hoses at a home on Arrel Road in Poland Township that exploded and caught fire.

POLAND — A home in the 4100 block of Arrel Road in Poland Township exploded a little before 6 a.m. today and then turned into an inferno.

A next-door neighbor said he awoke to a boom, and looked out the window to see flames that reached the top of a tall tree between the home where he lives and the home that exploded.

The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office was at the scene this morning but authorities are not releasing any information on whether anyone was injured or killed or any other details.

Representatives of Dominion East Ohio Gas were at the scene, as well as two people from Angels Rest pet cremation of Struthers, who brought two gurneys with white bags from the house and loaded them into their van.

Firefighters were there from the Western Reserve Joint Fire District, as well as at least one investigator from the Ohio Fire Marshal’s Office.

The home was still giving off a bit of smoke from behind some large bushes blocking the view at about 9:30 am, but it was apparent that the home was badly damaged.

The home is on the southern border of Poland Township adjacent to Springfield Township.
