Tue. 10:40 a.m.: Mahoning commissioners allocate more ARP funds
YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County commissioners have appropriated an additional $606,000 of the boardás $42 million in American Recovery Plan funds to various organizations.
They allocated:
• $100,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Youngstown to provide outdoor recreation activities, such as a clubhouse and community park connecting Oakhill Avenue and Market Street in Youngstown.
• $176,000 to Advance Methods in Innovation for innovation and career exploration and development space. It will provide resources and support to students to help it develop skills and make informed decisions about career pathways.
• $50,000 to Eastgate Regional Council of Governments for a broadband initiative that will develop regional broadband through project identification, technical assistance and grant writing.
• $175,000 to the Youngstown State University Police Academy to provide intensive active shooter training to police officers, teachers and police trainees.
• $75,000 to the Mahoning County Emergency Management Agency to partner with YSU Police Academy to purchase active-shooter equipment. It is estimated that the funding will provide one ballistic shield per law enforcement agency.
• $30,000 to the National Center Urban Solutions in Columbus for a part-time staffing-engagement consultant, marketing, a grassroots community engagement video, yard signs, TV commercials and a social-media campaign to build awareness in low income communities about in-demand manufacturing career pathways. The program is associated with the program Advanced Manufacturing Career Pathway to Underrepresented Persons.
The commissioners had their meeting Monday at the Boardman Township Government Center on Market Street.
