Two killed in Indiana toll road crash

Indiana State police are investigating a triple fatal crash on an Indiana Toll Road Sunday that left two Mahoning County residents dead.

Deceased are Mark Pelini, 31, of Canfield, and his front-seat passenger, Jillian Marian, 31, of Youngstown, according to a report from the Indiana State Police.

Marian is a teacher with Hubbard schools, while Pelini is a former football standout for the University of Nebraska, who played for his uncle Bo Pelini. Bo Pelini also previously was head coach of the Youngstown State University Penguins football team.

According to a report, Pelini was driving a white 2017 Ford SUV that collided with a black 2017 Ford pickup driven by David Taylor, 56, of Harrisburg, Pa.

One person in the front seat of Taylorás vehicle also was killed. She was identified as Jane Beecher, 57, of Harrisburg. A back seat passenger, Christopher Taylor, 29, of Harrisburg, was injured. He and David Taylor remain in Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana, according to the police report.

Families of the deceased have been notified.

At about 7:55 p.m. Sunday, the state police was dispatched to the toll road to investigate the two-vehicle crash in the eastbound lane.

Preliminary investigation by a trooper states Peliniás SUV was traveling westbound when it struck a deer. The SUV then crossed the center median and collided with the eastbound Ford pickup.

Both Pelini and Marian were pronounced dead at the scene.

The eastbound lanes of the toll road were closed while the crash was being investigated.
