Mon. 9:25 a.m.: Former deputy to be arraigned in Boardman homicide Tuesday
BOARDMAN — Michael N. Bruno, 49, will be arraigned Tuesday morning in Mahoning County Area Court in Boardman on charges of aggravated murder and domestic violence in the 7:30 a.m. Saturday killing of an elderly man at 1894 Lealand Avenue.
Meanwhile, Sheriff Jerry Greene this morning confirmed that Bruno is a former deputy in the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office, having served as deputy under former Sheriff Randall Wellington, before Greene became sheriff in 2013.
The home where the killing took place is owned by Michael J. Bruno, 74, and Patricia M. Bruno, according to Mahoning County Auditor property records and other records.
Boardman police received a call that a shooting had occurred around 7:30 a.m. and responded to 1894 Lealand Ave., which is off Mathews Road, where they promptly arrested a suspect, Werth said.
The coroner’s office has not yet ruled cause of death, and the identity of the victim was being withheld until the victim’s family is notified.
