Two victims of motorcycle pickup crash identified

BERLIN TOWNSHIP – A second person involved in a pickup versus motorcycle crash Monday evening has died.

Motorcyclist Joseph Olson, 62, of Windham, was pronounced dead at the scene following the 4:39 p.m. crash at U.S. 224 and Bedell Road. His passenger, Christine Olson, 60, was critically injured and later died at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

A 17-year-old pickup truck driver from Deerfield was headed west on U.S. 224 in a 2005 Chevy Silverado. A media release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol indicated the pickup truck driver failed to yield while making a left turn onto Bedell Road and was struck in the right side by the Olsons and their 2012 Harley Davidson. The Olsons were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

The 17-year-old was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

The Mahoning County Sherriff’s Office, Berlin Township Fire / EMS, and the Mahoning County Coroner assisted OHSP at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, according to OHSP.
