Two tornadoes confirmed in Trumbull County

Two tornadoes touched down in Trumbull County on Thursday afternoon with top winds that ranged between 80 mph and 104 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.

One of the tornadoes, an EF1, touched down near Mecca, just east of Mosquito Lake at 6:15 p.m., according to Zachary Sefcovic of the National Weather Service in Cleveland. It lifted from the ground at about 6:18 p.m.

The tornado hit several residences on Griffith and Edgewater Drives, causing damage, with one suffering major damage to an attached garage.

“Several trees were snapped and uprooted in the path,” Sefcovic said. “It dissipated east of Phillips Rice Road.”

A brief EF-0 tornado touched down on Porter Drive, south of state Route 88 and 183, Johnston Township, causing tree damage throughout the area before lifting. It had sustained winds of 80 mph.
