The matchup between East and Cardinal Mooney scheduled for Friday at Mineral Ridge has been canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the East football program.

East football coach Mark Assion confirmed the news Thursday afternoon and said East’s matchup with Howland on Oct. 1 is also in jeopardy as well.

After earning their only Week on Aug. 20 in a 12-8 decision over Shaw, the Golden Bears have lost four straight games. Their most recent loss came at the hands of the Boardman Spartans, 62-14.

Cardinal Mooney is winless so far this year and fell to Austintown Fitch 42-7 last week. They are still searching for another matchup for Friday.
