Fri. 10:10 a.m.: Driver indicted in December fatal accident
YOUNGSTOWN — Eighteen people were indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury, including a case were a Youngstown woman is charged in a fatal auto crash that killed her passenger last December.
Chante Childress, 50, Kendis Circle, is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, and two counts of operating a vehicle while under the influence.
According to reports the crash happened in the early morning hours of Dec. 22, 2020, near Overland Avenue and Garfield Street on the city’s South Side. Childress was driving a northbound Ford Fusion that skidded off the roadway and struck the front porch of a Garfield Street home. The passenger, Darren Moore, 55, was found dead by police in the car seat, the report states.
Childress was thrown from the vehicle, the report states, but survived.
Jail records show Childress had not been arrested on the indictment’s warrant as of Friday morning.
In another case, an East Side man was indicted Thursday on several charges stemming from a July 7 traffic stop in which police said they found 100 rounds of ammunition and 100 pills.
Charles R. Wimphrie IV, 29, of Shehy Street, is facing charges of aggravated possession of drugs, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of drugs and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
A police report states Wimphrie was driving a 2005 BMW with an expired license. He was pulled over at Summer Street and West Earle Avenue on a traffic violation and when police searched the vehicle, they said they found a Glock 19 handgun, an AR rifle and scores of ammunition.
Wimphrie was released on a $9,000 bond following his arraignment July 8 in Youngstown Municipal Court.
The report states officers found the handgun in Wimphrie’s pocket and ammunition on the floor of the passenger side of the vehicle along with the loaded rifle. A bulletproof vest was found across the rear seat, the report states.
Other ammunition was found all around the interior of the vehicle, the report states. Also found were four plastic bags that had suspected Alprazolam and Ecstasy pills plus some marijuana, the report states.
Jail records show that Wimphrie has not yet been arrested yet on the warrant that came from the indictment.
The grand jury also indicted:

• Braylyn L. Williams, 30, Rush Boulevard, Boardman, having weapons under restrictions, improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon and obstructing official business with firearm specification;
• Douglas D. Cole, 22, in care of Mahoning County jail, burglary with prior conviction specification and bribery;
• Aleah J. Zalovcik, 25, Pyatt Street, Youngstown, burglary with prior conviction specification;
• Jerret K. Miles, 32, South Jackson Street, Youngstown, aggravated possession of drugs;
• John L. Euler, 41, Playmouth Place NE, Warren, grand theft motor vehicle;
• Fabian M. Bellard, 28, Fairgreen Avenue, Youngstown, aggravated possession of drugs, obstruction official business and resisting arrest;
• Abby L. Pierson, 27, in care of Mahoning County jail, possession of heroin;
• Cajian N. Little, 30, North Schenley Avenue, Youngstown, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, and carrying a concealed weapon;
• Million C. Perry, 20, Fairgreen Avenue, Youngstown, improperly handling of firearms in a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana and noncorming glass in a motor vehicle;
• Marchello D. Stokes, 34, in care of Mahoning County jail, trafficking in cocaine, specification of forfeiture of money and property; possession of cocaine, specification of forfeiture, having weapons under restrictions; trafficking in drugs, specification of forfeiture; possession of drugs, with specification of forfeiture, trafficking in drugs with specification of forfeiture, possession of drugs with specification of forfeiture and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia with specification of forfeiture;
• Jason N. Dirocco, 30, in care of Mahoning County jail, breaking and entering, possession criminal tools, vandalism and theft;
• Collin A. Turner, 37, Morley Avenue, Campbell, having weapons under restrictions, possession of a fentanyl-related compound, possession of cocaine, aggravated possession of drugs, unlawful possession of dangerous ordnance, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia;
• Donald P. Salus, 52, South Shady Run Road, Youngstown, possession of cocaine, possessing drug abuse instruments and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
