Mon. 9:35 a.m.: Canfield man gets 12 years in prison in fatal crash

Michael Malvasi appears in court this morning for sentencing after his recent conviction stemming from driving intoxicated and crashing a vehicle, killing passenger Ryan Lanzo.

YOUNGSTOWN – Michael Malvasi II got two years less than the maximum – 12 years in prison – today for driving intoxicated, crashing a vehicle containing passenger Ryan Lanzo, leaving the scene without calling 911 and other offenses in 2017.

Lanzo was pronounced dead later at an Austintown medical facility. Malvasi, 30, of Timber Run Drive, was convicted at trial of six charges, aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular homicide, two counts of failure to stop after an accident, tampering with evidence and driving under the influence.

Judge Maureen Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court handed down the sentence this morning.
