Tues. 11:30 a.m.: Juvenile suspect’s identity released in Boardman shooting

BOARDMAN – Boardman police have confirmed that Jamia Dent, 17, of Boardman, was arrested Monday on attempted murder and aggravated assault charges after four people, including Dent, were injured by gunfire after 12:30 a.m. Sunday at 188 Stadium Drive in the township.

According to Boardman Police Chief Todd Werth, the victims, also juveniles, and suspect were “known to each other.” The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, and was not random, he said.

Dent has been charged with three counts of attempted murder, three counts of aggravated assault, each with gun specifications, and one count of improperly discharging a firearm.

A boy and girl, both 17, were taken to the hospital by friends after the shooting, Werth said via news release Monday.

The girl was shot in the facial area while the boy was shot in the groin area, as police stated in a redacted report.

A third victim was “grazed” by gunfire as well.
