Fri. 8:52 a.m.: Youngstown teacher union head resigning over financial issue

YOUNGSTOWN — Larry Ellis, president of the Youngstown teachers union, is resigning, effective May 31, after an audit of its financials.

“This audit was initiated after YEA’s (Youngstown Education Association) treasurer discovered some discrepancies that appear to be the result of a failure to follow the appropriate accounting procedures for expenditures related to the execution of Larry Ellisá regular duties as YEA president,”the union wrote in a prepared statement.

The audit is ongoing and union officials declined further comment.
