WEATHERSFIELD — Trustees have approved a new noise control resolution for the township.

In residential areas between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. on Sundays, and between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. Monday through Saturday, no one âshall make or permit the making of any noise or sound, which is plainly audible and which, by reason of volume, pitch, frequency, intensity, duration or nature annoys or disturbs the comfort, peace or health of a person of ordinary sensibilities.”

Examples of this are when sound can be heard from more than 50 feet from any property line and on the roadways where sound is heard 50 feet from the vehicle making the sound.

Violation of the noise resolution can result in a second-degree misdemeanor or a minor misdemeanor charge. Any fines levied will be paid into the township’s general fund.

“It’s just a tool to help control the noise,” Trustee Steve Gerberry said.

Also, the resolution states under no circumstances can a passenger car emit a maximum noise limit of 70 decibels operating at a speed of 35 miles per hour or less, or emit a maximum noise limit of 79 decibels when operated at a speed of 35 mph or higher.

For motorcycles, within the same speed parameters, it’s a maximum noise level of 82 decibels or 86 decibels, respectively.

Mufflers are also required per the resolution for any motor vehicle, agricultural tractor, motorcycle, all-purpose vehicle or snowmobile. These mufflers may not be removed, made inoperative or removed.
