Ex-cop Chance Jr. sentenced to six months in jail
YOUNGSTOWN — Phil Chance Jr. of Boardman, former Youngstown police officer, was sentenced to six months in county jail today for giving out carrying-concealed-weapon licenses to about 260 people without being licensed to train people or issue them.
Because of the actions of Chance, 41, son of former Mahoning County Sheriff Phil Chance Sr., the Mahoning sheriff’s office had to inform the approximately 260 people who received the certificates that they were not valid.
Chance Jr. also must serve six months of house arrest after he leaves jail and must pay a fine of $750 and repay the $6,983 cost of the investigation.
Judge Maureen Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court had Chance Jr. removed immediately after the hearing to begin his jail sentence. Greene said he will have Chance Jr. moved to another jail.
