YOUNGSTOWN -- Brandon Crump, who turned 18 Sunday, will be transferred from the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center to the county jail, to be housed in a juvenile pod, away from inmates already facing adult charges.
Mahoning County Juvenile Court Judge Maureen Sweeney issued that decision from the bench this morning after a hearing in juvenile court.
Crump is charged with aggravated robbery in connection with the Sept. 21 shooting death of 4-year-old Rowan Sweeney and the shooting of four adults in the home where Rowan lived with his mother.
The person charged with all of the shootings is Kimonie Bryant, 24, who could get the death penalty if he is convicted of aggravated murder and certain death-penalty specifications.
Today’s hearing was intended to determine whether Crump would be tried as an adult, but a delay in providing Crump’s lawyer with pre-hearing evidence caused that part of the hearing to be postponed to Feb. 5.
