YOUNGSTOWN – A man, 19, died at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital after being shot at 9:44 Saturday at Homestead Park at the corner of East Dewey and Homestead avenues on the South Side.

Police responded to the Homestead Park area for a report of shots fired and discovered that the male had been shot. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he died, according to a press release from the Youngstown Police Department.

The Youngstown Police Department and Mahoning County Coroner’s Office are investigating, and no arrests have been made.

The victim was identified by witnesses who were present, but his identity is not being released until next of kin have been notified, police said.

If the death is ruled a homicide, it will be the 17th of the year in the city. There were 20 in all of 2019.
