COVID-19 Ohio cases near record high for ’21

Ohio hasn’t seen a spike in COVID-19 cases such as the one in the past three days since the beginning of the year, with the 9,584 cases reported Friday — the second most for a single day this year. The only other day in 2021 that saw more cases was Jan. 7, when 10,251 were reported. From Wednesday to Friday, the total COVID-19 cases reported in Ohio was 27,659. Niles resident wins Vax-2-School money

COLUMBUS — A local student is among the winners of Wednesday’s Vax-2-School contest. Anthony Harker of Niles is listed among the winners. He goes to school in Lordstown. Residents ages 5 to 25 who have at least started the COVID-19 vaccine are eligible to win one of five $100,000 or one of 150 $10,000 scholarships to any Ohio college, university, technical or trade school, or career program of their choice. A surge in COVID-19 cases during the second half of November resulted in Ohio seeing an increase in cases reported that month compared to October. Overall, the 144,890 cases in November is the fifth-highest amount for a month since the March 2020 start of the pandemic.
