THE GATHERING: Zack Felger, district outreach and education specialist for the Mahoning County Soil and Water Conservation District, will present "The Buzz of Overwintering-Protecting Pollinators" at 11 a.m. Monday at the Gathering Place senior citizens event at Lord of Life Lutheran Church 550 N. Broad St., Canfield This is a free, community outreach social program offered to all senior citizens on the second Monday of each month. Felger will address proper care for gardens and flower beds.
MODEL CLUB: The Mahoning County Model Aircraft Club will sponsor a Radio Controlled Aircraft Fun Fly, Exhibition and Swap Meet 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Shaker Woods field, 44337 County Line Road, Columbiana. The family-friendly event is free. Food and beverages will be available for a donation and a 50/50 drawing will take place. No drones are permitted at Shaker Woods. VENDORS WANTED: Vendors are needed for a craft show 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 3 at OCCHA, 3660 Shirley Road, Youngstown. In addition to a variety of vendors, the craft show also will feature Spanish foods, a food truck, basket raffle and 50/50 raffle. The table rental fee is $25 plus a basket raffle donation. FREE MEAL: The Society of St Vincent de Paul Mahoning District Council provides a free meal to those in need six days a week at its 430 Williamson Ave. dining hall in Youngstown. Daily bread and other groceries are available at the food pantry at 321 Via Mount Carmel in Youngstown. COLLECTING FOR HALLOWEEN: The GFWC Ohio Austintown Juniorettes are collecting gently used or new Halloween costumes for their September community service project. The girls plan on donating the items to children and their families who may not have the resources to purchase a costume. Anyone wishing to donate a costume can leave a message on the AJWL Facebook page.
VOTER REGISTRATION: The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation will host a voter registration drive with the League of Women Voters 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the JCC, 505 Gypsy Lane. Participants will be able to register to vote and check their voter registration status. Absentee ballot request forms and polling site location information also will be available.
Tuesday is National Voter Registration Day. Founded in 2012, National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their most basic right -- the right to vote.
ABWA DAY: The Mill Creek Chapter of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) will celebrate ABWA Day on Sunday at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. with the luncheon to be served at 1 p.m. The cost is $23. Standing reservations and contact list members apply. QUILTERS SHOW AND TELL: That Quilt Group I Belong To will have its next meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fair Park on Oak Street in Canfield. These philanthropic stitchers make regular donations to Hospice of the Valley, Akron Children's Hospital, Beatitude House, Sleep in Heavenly Peace and more.
In July, they delivered more than 300 handmade pillow cases to Akron Children's Hospital to be distributed to each child who spends a night there. Last December, they delivered 49 Christmas stockings to the Salvation Army.
The September program will be a Show and Tell of Canfield Fair entries. The entire program time is allotted to sharing the quilts and other items entered in the Canfield Fair.

FAMILY ADVOCACY: The 15th annual Family Advocacy Conference supporting citizens with special needs will be Sept. 25 at Avion on the Water, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. The conference will equip parents, siblings and caregivers of individuals with developmental disabilities with pertinent information in areas that affect those with special needs. Registration deadline is Friday by contacting Arc of Ohio Northwest Branch, 3040 Center Road, Poland at 330-707-1134. Parents, caregivers and family members are $30 per person. Counselors, social workers and other professionals are $65 per person and vendors are $65.
FALL EQUINOX: The Unity Spiritual Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, will celebrate the fall equinox 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. A bonfire is planned, weather permitting. Otherwise, the event will be inside. The drumming circle will be led by Dan Susany, a local drummer who has led regional running events.
