FOOD DRIVE: The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation is hosting its annual High Holiday food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley through Oct. 14. Donations are being accepted at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown and Akiva Academy, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown; Temple El Emeth and Children of Israel Congregation, 3970 Logan Way, Liberty; and Ohev Beth Sholom, 1119 Elm St., Youngstown.
Items needed the most year-round include peanut butter, cereal, canned vegetables, canned fruit, tuna fish, dry pasta, canned soup, and macaroni and cheese. Monetary donations should be made payable to the Second Harvest Food Bank and sent to JCRC, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, Ohio 44504. CRUISIN' FOR PROSTATES: Yellow Brick Place Cancer Support Center will host its annual Cruisin' for Prostates Car Show 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Hollywood Gaming Racino in Austintown. The event is organized by the Prostate Life Brotherhood, a prostate cancer support group hosted by Yellow Brick Place. The event will showcase more than 100 cars from as early as the 1900s. Food truck vendors will be available throughout the event, as well as informational tables, basket raffles, giveaways and live music throughout the day. Admission is free. Vehicle registration is a $10 donation, with proceeds supporting Yellow Brick Place and its programs. Prizes for Best in Show and Best Car by Era will be awarded. SCHNEIDER TO SPEAK: Historian Bob Schneider will speak for the opening of the fall season of the World War II Roundtable when it meets Monday at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. The talk will be preceded by a buffet dinner with reservations due to Dave Frank by Friday. His number is 330-757-0515.
Schneider's topic, "Lions of the Jungle," will take a look at the history of the Bible-thumping maniac Major General Orde Wingate and the Chindits during the Japanese occupation of Burma. Wingate's strategy was to disrupt the Japanese Armies' methods of logistics and protect the Burma Road, a vital link to supply China. He will also discuss a little-known incident in the history of the Burma Campaign, the Battle of Ramree Island in 1945. A 1,000-man Japanese garrison force tried to escape the British Army. Schneider is a retiree from General Motors and a Youngstown State alumnus after earning a bachelor's degree in history.

NAMI WALK: Mental Health Matters 2026 will take place at 1 p.m. Oct. 3 at Austintown Township Park-Stacey Pavilion. Registration begins at 11 a.m.
The event will raise awareness, reduce stigma and support individuals and families in our community affected by mental illness. Every dollar raised funds free programs like support groups, education classes, wellness activities and crisis intervention training for law enforcement. The event will include food trucks, live music, games and activities, yoga on the lawn, agency info tables, basket raffles and a 50/50 raffle. SPIDER PRESENTATION: The Audubon Society of the Mahoning Valley will present Pat Rydquist, a retired interpretive naturalist from Summit MetroParks, who will share the lives and value of spiders so others can appreciate their beauty and worth. The presentation will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Austintown Senior Center, 112 Westchester Drive, Austintown. Social hour begins at 6:30 p.m.
TOUR OF HOMES: The Poland Historical Society will host its 2026 Tour of Homes 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, offering the public a rare opportunity to explore some of Poland's most beautiful homes and historic buildings. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. the day of the tour at Poland Village Town Hall, 308 S. Main St. Presale tickets are available in Poland at Aebischer's Jewelry, 68 S. Main St., and Consign & Design, 11 W. McKinley Way, during their regular business hours.
This year's tour features eight locations throughout the Village and Township, including historic residences, beautifully restored homes, the iconic Old Stone Tavern, and the Little Red Schoolhouse. Guests are invited to explore exhibits showcasing Poland's rich history plus a special display showcasing objects familiar to the Baby Boomers generation, enjoy complimentary refreshments, and participate in the society's basket raffle.

SCRAP TIRE COLLECTION: Liberty Township, through a grant from the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District, will conduct its annual scrap tire collection 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the township administration building, 1315 Churchill-Hubbard Road. No tires will be accepted before or after these dates.
There is a limit of eight tires per residence. Tires must be off rims. Passenger car and light truck tires only.

NEOC BIKE RIDE: The Out-Spokin' Wheelmen will host its 53rd annual Northeast Ohio Century, or NEOC, on Sunday, bringing cyclists from Northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania together for one of the Youngstown-area club's longest-running traditions.
This year, the 25-mile route adds a little extra fall flavor with visits to the 62nd annual Hartford Apple Festival and Hartford Hill Winery and Brewery. Riders can choose routes of 10, 25, 50 or 51 miles, making the event an option for cyclists looking for anything from a short recreational ride to a full-day endurance goal. Participants ride at their own pace along color-coded routes through mostly flat terrain.
NEOC also has earned another, perhaps more delicious, nickname: the Northeast Ohio Cookie Ride. Out-Spokin' volunteers bake dozens upon dozens of homemade cookies to keep cyclists fueled throughout the day, and lunch is included with registration.
Riders can begin between 7 and 10 a.m. at the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge, 6400 state Route 46, Mecca. Helmets are required, and support vehicles will be available until 5 p.m. to assist cyclists with mechanical problems or other needs.

ABW DAY: A luncheon commemorating American Business Women's Day will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon St., Canfield. ABW Day is observed nationally on Sept. 22 to honor the accomplishments of women business owners and professionals.
Hosted by the Mill Creek Chapter of ABWA, the event is open to current and retired businesswomen. Skye Tancer, this year's featured speaker, will discuss her role as Canfield Fair Manager and her military background.
