MVRHA EVENT IS SATURDAY: The Mahoning Valley Railroad Heritage Association will host its first-ever Youngstown Sheet and Tube Day 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at its museum property at 1340 Poland Ave. The event will showcase the association's collection and will feature the items from the local mills.
AVENGE HUNGER MONTH: For the ninth consecutive year, Armstrong is launching its annual Avenge Hunger Month campaign to fight hunger across the service territory. The 2026 collection drive runs through Oct. 4. The timing of Avenge Hunger Month is intentional. September is recognized as National Hunger Month as the need for food assistance increases during the fourth quarter of the year. Throughout the campaign, Armstrong in North Lima will collect nonperishable food items and monetary donations that will be donated to area food banks and pet food and supplies to Animal Charity of Ohio. Donations can be dropped off at various locations in Mahoning County, including Giant Eagle and Sparkle Market stores.
REVIVAL WEEK: Mount Zion Baptist Church, 827 Wilson Ave., Youngstown will have a revival week 7 p.m. daily Monday to Friday. All churches are welcome.
CHOOSE JOY: The seventh annual Choose Joy 5K Run will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Canfield High School. All proceeds from the event will be for funding pediatric brain cancer research. The event will include a bounce house, food trucks, face painting and crafts. The 5K run is at 3:30 p.m.
MOSS HOUSE: The Moss Ancestral Home, 1476 and 1499 Burnett St., Mineral Ridge, will have an open house and celebration of Mary Lou Godleski's birthday 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Godleski is responsible for saving the Moss Ancestral Home from demolition. The Mineral Ridge Historical Society is located across the street from the Moss House and will be open for people to see displays and exhibits.
OPEN HOUSE: The Girard Historical Society will have an open house 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and Sept. 27 of the historic Barnhisel House on South State Street, The society takes care of the home and has different displays and exhibits.
