SHRED EVENT: To help combat identity theft, AAA East Central and Shred-It are hosting a free shredding event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at AAA's office at 1275 Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman. AAA members in the area are invited to bring up to five storage boxes (nonmembers, three boxes) filled with paperwork containing personally identifiable information, including names, birthdates, account numbers, etc., for on-site shredding.
WALNUT HILL CLOGGERS: Pony Time Ranch, 6101 Oak St., Lowellville, will host the Walnut Hill Cloggers 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday. There will be a concession stand, kids games, face painting and a basket raffle.
BACK-TO-SCHOOL PICNIC: Ohio Virtual Academy, a tuition-free online school, will host an in-person, back-to-school picnic 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at Boardman Park, 375 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman.
This free event will welcome students, both new and returning, back to OHVA for the 2026-27 semester and give them the opportunity to connect with classmates and educators. Students and families will have access to free activities to entertain, educate and set families up for success by providing resources, volunteer opportunities and OHVA app support.

HISTORIAN TO SPEAK: Historian Bob Schneider will speak for the opening of the fall season of the World War II Roundtable when it meets Sept. 21 at A La Carte Catering in Canfield. The talk will be preceded by a buffet dinner with reservations due to Dave Frank by Sept. 18. His number is 330-757-0515
Schneider's topic "Lions of the Jungle" will take a look at the history of the Bible-thumping maniac Maj. Gen. Orde Wingate and the Chindits during the Japanese occupation of Burma. Schneider is a retiree from General Motors and a Youngstown State alumni after earning a bachelor's degree in history.
DARE MEETS: Divorce/Death Aren't Really the End (DARE), a singles group, meets every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St., Boardman.
