COMMUNITY OUTREACH: The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Mahoning District Council plans a community outreach event 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Edward Church, 240 Tod Lane, Youngstown. Volunteers from the St. Columba Cathedral Parish and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will offer guests a free to-go meal, free groceries and free bags of clothing on a first-come, first-served basis. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Mahoning District Council also provides a free meal six days a week at its 430 Williamson Ave. dining hall location in Youngstown, daily bread and other groceries at the food pantry at 321 Via Mt. Carmel in Youngstown, and low- to no-cost clothing, furniture and more at its Thrift Store and Donation Center, open to the public, located at 7392 Market St. in Boardman. AAUW KICKS OFF NEW YEAR: The Youngstown Branch of the American Association of University Women will kick off its new year 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Way Volunteer Resource Center, 8133 Market St. Besides being a "meet and greet" for potential new members, there also will be a presentation/discussion titled "Individuals and Communities Build Resilience." Presenters include Sharon Stringer, Applied Developmental Psychologist and Joy Tang, Social Psychologist of Youngstown State University's Department of Psychological Sciences & Counseling.They will describe recent trends in the science of resilience and provide an overview of their collaborative work in Ohio's statewide SOAR coalition. SOAR is a first-ever, multi-generational study that will be used to improve the understanding and treatment of mental health care.

AVENGE HUNGER MONTH: For the ninth consecutive year, Armstrong is launching its annual Avenge Hunger Month campaign to fight hunger across the service territory. The drive runs through Oct. 4. September is recognized as National Hunger Action Month for food assistance, which increases during the last quarter of the year. Throughout the campaign, Armstrong's office in North Lima will collect nonperishable food items and monetary donations, which will be donated to local food banks. Pet food and supplies will be donated to Animal Charity of Ohio.
SUPPORT GROUP: The Youngstown Area Ostomy Support Group meets from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Tibbetts Wick Homecare office, 979 Tibbetts Wick Road, Suite A, Girard. Parking is free.
ENRICHMENT SERVICES: Ohio Living Home Health and Hospice Community Enrichment Services presents its Garden Art Series: Rock Painting, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Mahoning County Ohio State University Extension, 490 S. Broad St., Canfield.
On Saturday, experts from The Ohio Department of Insurance and Senior Medicare Patrol will be available to answer Medicare questions from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ohio Living Home Health and Hospice, 6715 Tippecanoe Road, Building D, Canfield.
FITCH 1969: The Austintown Fitch High School Class of 1969 is planning a 75th birthday celebration. The class will gather Sept. 24 for an afternoon social hour. On Sept. 25, there will be a catered picnic. The celebration will end with a morning brunch on Sept. 26.

SUICIDE AWARENESS: Grief & Loss in Motion will host a Suicide Awareness Walk 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Brookfield Local School District's football stadium, 604 Bedford Road. The event also will feature basket raffles, local vendors, community resource tables, suicide prevention information and opportunities to remember loved ones lost to suicide.
ALZHEIMER SUPPORT: The Alzheimer Network support group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2305 S. Canfield Niles Road, Austintown; and 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Catholic Church, Boardman Canfield Road, Boardman.
