DAHLIA SOCIETY: The Mahoning Valley Dahlia Society will host the 22nd annual show Saturday and Sunday at the Boardman Park Lariccia Family Community Center, 375 Boardman-Poland Road. The event will take place 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Dahlias of all colors and forms and artistic designer arrangements will be entered into the show. LIT YOUNGSTOWN EVENTS: Lit Youngstown has partnered with several local writers and educators to offer unique community writing workshops beginning in August. • A workshop for Newcomers to the Mahoning Valley will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Aug. 25 and Sept 1 and 8, at LOOP Arts & Culture Center, 805 Mahoning
Ave. Workshop leader Bella Davis is a graduate student and instructor at Youngstown State University.
• A writing workshop for veterans will meet in person 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 25, Sept. 1 and 8, at LOOP. Session leader Sydney Stalnecker is a writer, teacher and graduate of Youngstown State University where she teaches first-year writing.
• Joanne Poss will lead a Mental Wellness Writing Workshop for participants 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, Aug. 20 and 27, and Sept. 3 and 10, at LOOP. Poss is a musician, songwriter and poet, and has written works for the stage.
• The 55+ Writing Workshop creates a space for older adults to explore creativity and share experiences, and will take place in person 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, Aug. 20, 27, and Sept. 3 and 10, at LOOP. Session leader Jenny Tullis is a musician, teacher and writer and graduate of Youngstown State University. She is the assistant director at WYSU-FM.
