SUMMER DISCOVERY WRAP UP: The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County is wrapping up the Summer Discovery program with countywide parties for participants today through Saturday. Parties will be on the following days and locations.
Wednesday: Austintown, 10-11:30 a.m.; Poland, 2-3 p.m.; Michael Kusalaba, Youngstown, 3-4 p.m.; and East, 3:30-5 p.m.
Thursday: Brownlee Woods, noon-2 p.m.; Boardman, 1:30-3 p.m.; Newport, 3:30-5 p.m.; and Sebring, 5-6 p.m.
Friday: Struthers, 12:30-2 p.m. and Springfield: 2-4 p.m.
Saturday: Campbell, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; main library, 2-4:30 p.m.; Canfield, 2:30-4 p.m.; and Tri-Lakes, North Jackson, 3-4:30 p.m.
The parties celebrate with everyone who spent time reading and learning at the library this summer. More than 6,000 people registered for Summer Discovery and more than 13,000 people attended library programs during June and July. For information visit, www.libraryvisit.org.
WRITING WORKSHOPS: Lit Youngstown has partnered with local writers and educators to offer four community writing workshops beginning the first week of August. The workshops are free and open to the public, but registration is required. No prior writing experience is necessary. For information, visit lityoungstown.org/news.
Topics are geared to newcomers to the Mahoning Valley, veterans, mental wellness and older adults.
CHROME AND CLASSICS: A Chrome and Classics car show and sock hop will be noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Center, 114 W. Marshall Road, McDonald. The event will include classic cars, oldies music, a sock hop and contests and awards.
