FAMILY FUN DAY: The 21st annual Family Fun Day and bookbag giveaway will take place 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Tod Park in Girard, rain or shine. The event is hosted by Cindy Michael's Lena Mason Christian Memorial Foundation in memory of Mason and Christian who, along with their mother, Lena, died on Sept. 13, 2005. Registration for children who need bookbags and school supplies will begin at 12:30 p.m. Bookbags will be given out after 3 p.m. The event will include hot dogs, face painting, clowns and crafts.
QUILT GROUP SOCIAL: That Quilt Group I Belong To is hosting an ice cream social at its next meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Rotary Building at Fair Park on Oak Street in Canfield. The quilters meet on the third Tuesday of each month at Fair Park. Quilters of all skill levels are welcome. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting at 7 p.m.
WRITERS MEETING: The Monday Night Writers will meet 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at Lena's Books and More, 4317 Kirk Road, Austintown. Area writers, both published and unpublished, are invited to attend. The meeting is led by author Nancy Christie and provides an opportunity for members to get group feedback on works-in progress, For information contact Christie at nancy@nancychristie.com.
TREASURE SALE: The Poland Lions Club will host a treasure and trunk sale 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Vendors who would like to take part and have space should call Judy at 330-360-3641 or Karen at 330-207-2418.
CELEBRATION OF FEAST DAY: The Celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of Czestochowa (Black Madonna) will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday with a Mass at St. Columba Cathedral in downtown Youngstown. Hosted by St. Columba Cathedral, PolishYoungstown and Krakus Polish Deli & Bakery, this annual celebration honors one of the most revered Marian devotions in the Polish Catholic tradition. The Mass will include traditional Polish hymns and will be followed by a Polish lunch reception featuring musical entertainment by accordionist Luke Polistsky.
Youngstown is home to one of the region's few consecrated shrines dedicated to Our Lady of Czestochowa, making this a unique opportunity to celebrate both faith and the rich Polish heritage of the Mahoning Valley.

POLAND STORY TRAIL: A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place this month for the opening of the Poland Story Trail at Poland Township Park. The event was during the township's annual Safety Forces Day. The new trail features 10 interpretive panels highlighting Poland's 18th and 19th century history with two additional panels expected to be completed later this summer. The project was led by Laurie Fox, president of the Poland Historical Society, and Ken Filicky, Poland Township park director.
The story trail was created to preserve and share Poland;s 230 years of history in a format that encourages visitors to experience the outdoors while learning how the community's story connects to America's 250th anniversary. Each panel highlights the people, places and events that shaped Poland across the 18th and 19th centuries.
