BACK TO SCHOOL BASH: Alta Care Group is hosting its first Back to School Bash noon to 6 p.m. Friday at Master's Pavilion in Boardman Park. This free community event will feature stuffed backpacks (children must be present to receive them), preteen hygiene kits, hair cuts and simple hair styles, concessions, music, inflatable bounce houses, mobile gaming trailer, giveaways and more.
Parents also can learn more about the services and programs offered at Alta Behavioral Healthcare and Alta Head Start, as well as employment opportunities within the organization.
This event is funded by the One Ohio Recovery Foundation with community support from DJ Mas, DJ Stan the Man, Excalibur Barber Shop, Molnar's Concessions, RTF Mobile Gaming, Your Mobile Cosmo and Youngstown BBQ Company.

PARK OPENING: The Eastgate Regional Council of Governments and the Youngstown Department of Parks and Recreation will celebrate the grand opening of the Youngstown Spring Commons Park, 534 Mahoning Ave., at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. The revitalized park includes facade improvements to the historic B&O Station Banquet Hall, a riverfront path connecting to the West Avenue Boat Launch, a new pergola event space and ongoing updates to the greenery and plants. Guests are invited to enjoy the YO Spotlight Concert Series starting at noon after the ribbon cutting.
AVIATION CAREERS OPEN HOUSE: The Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics Youngstown campus at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in Vienna will host an open house at 11 a.m. Saturday for a public aviation exploration event, connecting prospective students directly with employers. One of the industry's most critical workforce gaps is mechanics and technicians responsible for keeping aircraft safe, inspected and operational, PIA officials said.
VETERANS LUNCH AND LEARN: Dr. Chrisanne Gordon, founder and executive director of the Resurrecting Lives Foundation, will be the speaker for the next Veterans Lunch and Learn 11:30 a.m to 1 p.m. Aug. 20 at Freedom Church, 3999 McCarty Drive, Canfield. Gordon is a board-certified rehabilitation physician, author, filmmaker, and nationally recognized advocate for veterans living with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and the invisible wounds of war.
Resurrecting Lives Foundation (RLF) is a national nonprofit organization focused on raising awareness of the consequences of untreated brain injuries while advocating for services preventing suicides among veterans, allowing a path to a future for those veterans struggling with the signature wounds of the Global War on Terror -- TBI and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The lunch is free, but registration is required at www.befreemc.org/vet.
