NEW PICKLEBALL COURTS: Canfield Township Trustees will celebrate the dedication of four new pickleball courts at 10 a.m. today at the township park, 7419 Herbert Road. The new courts represent an investment in recreational opportunities for township residents and visitors. The $147,681 project was made possible through several community partnerships with Mahoning County commissioners $65,047; community donations $35,000l; Canfield Rotary Club $10,000 and Canfield Township $34,634.
In addition to the courts, the township invested nearly $20,000 for sidewalks, steps, railings, benches and picnic tables to enhance the overall accessibility for park visitors.
BLING EVENT: Gateways to Better Living invites the community to an evening of fun, fashion, and fundraising at the fourth annual Bingo and Bling fundraiser 5 p.m. today, at Waypoint 4180 in Canfield. Gateways Designer Purse Bingo, Bingo & Bling brings together friends, families, and community members while supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Doors open at 5 p.m., with bingo beginning promptly at 6:30 p.m.
Guests will have the opportunity to win an impressive collection of designer handbags. Tickets are $50 per person. Proceeds from Bingo & Bling directly benefit Gateways to Better Living, a nonprofit organization that provides residential and day services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the Mahoning Valley. Gateways operates 25 residential homes and three day programs, serving more than 200 individuals with the support of over 350 dedicated employees. The organization is committed to empowering lives, building futures, and providing personalized support that help individuals live safe, meaningful, and fulfilling lives.
Tickets are expected to sell out. Guests are encouraged to reserve their seats early.

CENTER OFFERS CARE FOR CHILDREN: The Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, of Youngstown is offering all day care for students in grades kindergarten through five weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 10 to Sept. 4 and Sept. 25.
Children will enjoy science experiments, swimming, recreational activities, and more. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided, but students must bring a packed lunch.
The cost is $40 per day. Visit jccyoungstown.org/jcare to register and see a full calendar of 2026/2027 dates. Drop-in care is not available; students must be registered in advance.
J All Day is open to all surrounding school districts for students in grades kindergarten through fifth. It provides a full day of fun for students when schools are closed.
ABWA TO MEET: The Mill Creek Chapter ABWA (American Business Women's Association) will take place at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. Networking will begin at 6 pm Tuesday with dinner at 6:30 pm. The cost is $16. Reservations may be made by calling Marilyn at 330-726-2527 or Darlene at 330-718-7227. The scholarship recipients are invited to this August meeting.
The speaker for the evening will be Susie McCab, president of the Canfield Historical Society. She will share a PowerPoint presentation on " Canfield Fair Memories."
COMMUNITY OUTREACH: A free community outreach program will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fair Park 8284 Fair Street. Canfield. The free community outreach social program offered to all senior citizens Reservations are not required, Guest is Stefan Jones a local Civil War historian, who will present a slide show "World War I First Code Talkers." MOSS HOUSE: The Moss Ancestral House will be open from 1 to 4 p.m the second Sunday of each month at 1499 Burnett Road. The Mineral Ridge Historical Society House located across the street will also be open . Mary Lou Godleski has been contributing to the restoration of the house since 1990 after learning that her grandfather lived in the house from 1859 to 1899. The house was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2023. Godleski was awarded the Historic Preservation Award in 2028 from the Mahoning Valley Historical Society.
