Youngstown women’s club meets

The May 20 meeting of the Youngstown Area Federation of Women’s Club took place at Double Bogey’s in Boardman, where the presentation of yearly awards for Community Service and Woman of the Year took place.

Paul McFadden, president of Youngstown State University Foundation, gave a presentation on the history of the Foundation and how it has supported generations of YSU students through scholarships. He also thanked the club for their continued support through their YAFWC scholarship, which goes to a nontraditional female student each year.

The 2026 Community Service award went to Daniel Wakefield, director of the Dorothy Day House. The Dorothy Day House is a nonprofit located on Belmont Avenue in Youngstown. It provides access to a shower, fresh produce from the garden and a safe place for individuals to relax and enjoy hot meals. They serve 75 meals each evening as well as offer meals to go on Sunday.

The Club Woman of the year award went to Nancy Brooks, recognized for all the hard work, dedication and time she’s given to help make the Youngstown Federation of Women’s Club a welcoming and successful organization.

The next meeting will take place at noon June 17 at The Lake Club.
