COMMUNITY NEWS: Race, equity, inclusion workshop set
RACE, EQUITY AND INCLUSION: The Wean Foundation will sponsor a Race, Equity and Inclusion workshop at 10 a.m. Tuesday via Zoom. The workshop will provide an understanding of racism in its institutional and structural forms. Virtual sessions last 30 minutes. SOUND BATH: The Unity Spiritual Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty , will present Sound Bath at 7 p.m. Wednesday with Maria and Calvin Wagner of the Sound Therapy in Boardman. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Those attending are asked to dress comfortably and to bring a pillow or blanket. A love offering of $20 is suggested. For information, call the center at 330-539-0122.
RESEARCH TEAM: The Oakhill Volunteer Research Team is looking for people who like doing historical research. People are needed to do research and field work for the team, including responding to questions when a family calls and wants information for loved ones buried in Oak Hill Cemetery and burial lot cards with family members to do research for historical purposes. Also needed are replacement headstones for veterans or replacing faded government markers of veterans. Assistance also is needed on veteran profiles by gathering brief information on each veteran and what period of war he or she served in for historical records.
The field team does certain projects in the field for historical purposes. If interested in joining the team, call historian Steffon Wydell Jones at 330-301-7365.
SOCIETY TO MEET: The Poland Historical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Little Red School House, 4515 Center Road. The meeting will include a discussion about the society’s involvement with Celebrate Poland such as hosting guided tours of historical Poland Village, the village graveyard and Riverside Cemetery. There also will be an update on the activities planned by the America 250 committee in 2026 when the United States celebrates its semiquincentennial. Following the meeting, a program will take place featuring Eric Simione, manager of Lanterman’s Mill in Mill Creek MetroParks.
LIGHT UP THE LIBRARY: The Girard Free Library will allow teens to create masterpieces using glow in the dark paints at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. All materials will be provided. Registration is required at 330-545-2508.
LEAGUE TO HOST ANNIVERSARY: The Shenango Valley Urban League will hold its 57th annual banquet 6 p.m. May 28 at Avalon at Buhl Park. Individual tickets are $50. Deadline for tickets is Friday. Call 724-981-5310.
NEW LOCATION: The St. Vincent de Paul dining hall Mahoning District Council has moved to a new location at the corner of South and Williamson avenues at the Broadway Community Campus, 430 Williamson Ave., Youngstown. Lunches are served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays and breakfast is available 10 to 11 a.m. Saturdays.
