Community news: Mushroom and Monsters fest coming Sunday
MUSHROOM EVENT: The first Mushrooms and Monsters event will be noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at 816 Elm St., Youngstown. The event is hosted by the Spore Sisterhood and the Spore Society. The theme is all things mushroom. There will be various vendors with treats for the children.
BINGO FUNDRAISER: A bingo fundraiser for the victims of hurricanes Helene and Milton will begin at 6:45 pm. Wednesday at SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 1025 N. Belle Vista Ave., Youngstown. All proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross.
WRITERS TO MEET: The Monday Night Writers will meet 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at Leana’s Books and More, 4317 Kirk Road, Youngstown. Area writers both published and unpublished are invited to meet. Led by author Nancy Christie, the event allows for writers to receive group feedback.
BIGFOOT PROGRAM: The Girard Free Library will host a program with Amy Bue, founder of Project Zoo Book, which is a collaboration of scientists and field researchers looking for Bigfoot. She will speak at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the library. Her primary research areas are in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Registration is required at the library.
GUEST SPEAKER: William F. B. Vodrey will be the guest speaker on McArthur and Post War Japan at the World War II Heritage Group gathering at 7 p.m. today at A La Carte Catering in Canfield. Vodrey, of East Liverpool, has been interested in presidential and military history. He is a former Civil War reenactor with the 51st Ohio Infantry,
HAUNTED EVENT: Gateways to Better Living will present its Not So Haunted House noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Austintown Plaza. Admission is free to children of all ages. The event allows for different sensory activities.
LITERACY CAMP-OUT: Girard City Schools’ annual Title I Literacy Night, themed “Literacy Camp-Out: Read S’more!” is 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Prospect Elementary School. There will be storytelling, reading activities and s’mores.
