COMMUNITY NEWS: Moms & Babies Block Party planned in Youngstown

HEALTHY BLOCK PARTY: The Greater Youngstown Community Dialogue on Racism will host its Healthy Pregnancy, Moms & Babies Block Party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Boys & Girls Club in Youngstown.

The event is free and will include food, music, giveaways and more than $1,000 in raffle prizes. Vendors and representatives with information and assistance for mothers and families also will be there.

EAST CLASS MEET AND GREET: The East High School Class of 1964 will hold a meet and greet 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday at the Youngstown ACME Club, 50 Struthers Coitsville Road. For information, call Ron Develin at 330-794-8882.

HUMANE SOCIETY BINGO: The Columbiana County Humane Society is starting bingo Wednesday, and it will continue every week at Quaker Hall, 1688 S. Lincoln Ave., Salem. Doors open at 4 p.m. and games run 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Food, snacks and refreshments are available to purchase, and coffee is provided. Proceeds benefit the Columbiana County Humane Society.

APPLICATION EXTENSION: The Rotary Club of Youngstown is extending its call for applications for its STEM and STEAM Mini Grant Program for Educators. Awards up to $500 will be given to applicants from public and private schools in grades K-8 in Youngstown. The instructions and application are available at youngstownrotary.com through Sept. 30.

FALL FISH SALE: The Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its annual fall fish sale 2 to 3 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Canfield Fairgrounds, 7265 Columbiana- Canfield Road.

The group will offer a variety of fingerling-sized fish, including fathead minnows, largemouth bass, bluegill, hybrid bluegill, channel catfish, red-ear sunfish (shell cracker), yellow perch, white amur and Japanese koi. In addition to fish, pond-related products such as fish food, pond conditioner and pond maintenance books also will be available to buy.

To participate, orders must be submitted to the district office by Sept. 20. Orders can be placed by contacting the district office at 330-740-7995 or via email at askswcd@mahoning

countyoh.gov. The order form is available on the district’s website.

Participants should bring containers to transport the fish. Five-gallon buckets with unscented poly liners (30-gallon trash bags) are recommended. Containers should be one-third filled with pond water. Each container can hold up to 100 small fish, 1,000 minnows, or four to five amurs and koi.
