GIRARD MOUNT CARMEL FESTIVAL: The Girard Mount Carmel Festival will take place Friday to July 16 at the Italian Fraternal Home grounds, 33 W. Wilson Ave. The festival will include food, games, bingo and nightly entertainment with Cin City & the Saints 8 to 11 p.m. Friday; Common Ground 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday; Dead Flowers 8 to 11 p.m. Sunday; Blue Collar Band 8 to 11 p.m. July 15; parade at 10 a.m. and Mass at St. Rose Church at 11 a.m. July 16; and Girard Swingtime Band 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Blue Coat Band 8 to 10:30 p.m. July 16, with fireworks by Zambelli at 11 p.m. The midway is open 6 to 11 p.m. each night.

TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM: The YWCA Mahoning Valley will present “How We Get Around” at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Crandall Park’s open air pavilion, 400 Redondo Road, Youngstown. The event will include the Transportation Action Team of Healthy Community Partnership. The event also will include discussion on improvements, challenges and opportunities for better transportation in the Mahoning Valley. Register at ywcamahoningvalley.org

HISTORICAL PROGRAM: The Mineral Ridge Historical Society will host an open house 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Moss Ancestral House, 1499 Burnett St., Mineral Ridge. The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The historical society has a museum located across the street from the Moss House with artifacts, pictures and the history of Mineral Ridge.

An Indian campfire will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday on the Moss House lawn, with Bill Moss as Wowaton who will entertain with games and activities teaching about Native American culture. Those attending can bring a lawn chair. Rain date is Saturday.

OPEN HOUSE :The Poland Historical Society will host an open house 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday of the Little Red Schoolhouse, 4515 Center St.

CLEANUP: The Jewish Community Center of Youngtown will host the second annual Northside Community Cleanup Day 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, with two separate shifts. Lunch break will be noon to 1 p.m. Participants should meet at the pavilion at 505 Gypsy Lane.

ST. NICHOLAS SUMMERFEST: The St. Nicholas Greek Church, 220 N. Walnut St., across from Choffin Career and Technical Center in Youngstown, will host its annual Summerfest this weekend. The event will take place indoors and outdoors. There will be children’s activities, a gift card auction, baked goods and food.

This is the 40th annual event, with music and dancing Friday and Saturday and Greek music on Sunday. Festival hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday

5K RACE SET: The Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley will host a 5K Race 10 a.m. Saturday at White House Fruit Farm, 9249 U.S. Route 62, Canfield. The fun run and walk covers a distance of 1,640 feet. Participants will receive a White House doughnut stop halfway. Registration is a $5 donation.

SOCIETY TO MEET: The McDonald Historical Society will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the community room, 500 Ohio Ave. The society is looking for new members.

PAINTING CLASS: The Girard Free Library will host a learn to paint class on digital canvas at 11 a.m. Friday. Bring your own device or use one of the library’s iPads. All experience levels are welcome. Registration is required.

CLASS OF 1984: The Liberty High School Class of 1984 will host its 40th reunion 6:30 to 10 p.m. July 20 at the Bull and Bear Neighborhood Grille and Tavern on Belmont Avenue. For information, email libertyleopardalumni@gmailcom.

IRISH FESTIVAL: The Mahoning Valley’s third annual Irish Festival will be 5 to 11 p.m. July 19 and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. July 20 at Penguin City Brewing in downtown Youngstown. There will be Irish American food, dance performances, music and vendors. Kids Day will be 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 20.
