Community News | Bug Day at MetroParks

BUG DAY AT PARK: Mill Creek MetroParks will present “Bug Day” 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Ford Nature Center, 840 Old Furnace Road, Youngstown. The free family-friendly event will include live bug exhibits, bug catching and release, bug crafts, a bug tattoo station and Bad Bug Forest Walk.

CEMETERY TOUR: An Oak Hill Cemetery tour will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the cemetery, 344 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown. The program will be on the common men and women who made a difference in our community. The event is free. For information, call Steffon at 330-301-7365.

LOWELLVILLE MOUNT CARMEL FESTIVAL: The Mount Carmel Society’s 129th annual festival will be Tuesday to Saturday at 102 Washington St., Lowellville. Procession to the church begins at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday followed by Mass at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church. The festival begins at 6 p.m. each night Wednesday to Saturday. Nightly entertainment with the baby doll dance will be featured. Fireworks by Zambelli Fireworks will be at 11:45 p.m. Saturday.

NILES MOUNT CARMEL FESTIVAL: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Festival in Niles will host its 91st annual festival celebration Thursday to Sunday at the church grounds off Robbins Avenue. There will be nightly raffle drawings. Hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 11 pm. Friday, 4 to 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 to 10 p.m. Sunday. There will be a variety of parish foods. Live performers include French Blue + 2 from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Random Strangers 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, Cin City & the Saints 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday and Vegas Band 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday.

NATURE DAY: McDonald’s summer park program will present Nature Day 1 p.m. Wednesday at Woodland Park. There will be interactive activities to learn about animals and wildlife.

WRITER’S GROUP: The Monday Night Writers Group will meet 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at Leana’s Books and More, 4317 Kirk Road, Austintown. Area writers both published and unpublished are invited to attend. The group is led by author Nancy Christie, who can be reached at nancy@nancychristie.com.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY: Cafe Rose and Sarah’s Ceramic Studio will host a Christmas in July noon to 5 p.m. Sunday to benefit Furrever and After Cat Sanctuary. The outdoor art market will include local makers, bakers and artisans. There will be a raffle of items donated by each participating business. There will be complimentary coffee and tea. Raffle donations are being sought from local businesses.

BEEKEEPERS TO MEET: The Columbiana and Mahoning County Beekeepers Association will meet July 21 at Austintown Senior Center, 112 Westchester Drive. A social potluck lunch will be at 1 p.m. and the meeting at 2 p.m. for any interested beekeepers. The club will speak on preparing honey entries for the Canfield Fair.

GIRARD LIBRARY PROGRAMS: The Girard Free Library will present an OH WOW! program at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Trumbull Master Gardener Wanda Thomas will speak at 6 p.m. Wednesday on easy tips for gardens to thrive and grow. Registration is required.

Family and Friends bingo will be at 2 pm. Friday. Prizes will be awarded. Registration is required.

CAR AND BIKE SHOW: Veterans Outreach and Armstrong will host the 12th annual car and bike show Sunday at Austintown Township Park, 6000 Kirk Road. Registration for a vehicle is $10. Spectator entry is free. Registration is 10 a.m. to noon, and the show is noon to 3:30 p.m. For information on the show, call 330-986-0987.
