MALL HOLDS VALENTINE EVENTS: The Southern Park Mall is offering family-friendly Valentine’s Day events. Activities include Post Your Love and an American Red Cross blood drove that will offer ways to celebrate friendships, love and positivity through creative expressions and acts of kindness.

The mall has the interactive art display #PostYourLove where guests are encouraged to write notes of love, affirmation, encouragement or even a simple “I Love You” with a Post-it note. The #PostYourLove display is located near the JC Penney entrance. Guests also may share their notes virtually.

The mall also will host an American Red Cross blood drive 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday. Donors can register at www.redcross.org. The blood drive will be inside the Buffalo Wild Wings entrance area.

MVHS HOSTS COOKIE EVENT: The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will host its ninth annual Cookie Table and Cocktails fundraiser event online at 6 p.m. Feb. 27. This year’s event will be virtual and can be accessed on the MHVS website and social media platforms. A weeklong basket raffle and silent auction will precede the event, which is free this year.

Traditionally, the Cookie Table and Cocktails event has been a live event that creates a traditional Youngstown wedding reception and features a judged cookie baking competition for both amateurs and professional bakers.

Financial gifts may be made to the MVHS.

SCOUT ANNIVERSARY: Boy Scouts of America marked its 111th anniversary on Feb. 8. The nation’s top youth services organization continues to educate on the principles of Scouting. The first female Eagle Scouts have been recognized since girls have been part of scouting. A live virtual presentation on the inaugural class of female Eagle Scouts will be Feb. 21 on Facebook.

MILL CREEK EXTENDS CLOSURE: Mill Creek MetroParks has extended cancellations and closures in the park until April in support of the recommendations from Gov. Mike DeWine’s office. The Ohio Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have extended the cancellations of all previously scheduled programs, tours, events, lectures, and indoor facilities until April. In the event a registration fee or rental fee was paid in full, a refund will be processed.

The following Mill Creek MetroParks locations will be closed through April 12: MetroParks Farm education building and animal barn; D.D. and Velma Davis Education and Visitors Center; all pavilion, cabins, shelters, Yellow Creek Lodge, Lanterman’s Mill and administration offices.

Outdoor locations will remain open, including the park, Fellows Riverside Gardens, the bikeway, golf courses, MetoParks Farm, disc golf courses, and preserves and sanctuaries.

All visitors are asked to follow safety guidelines with social distancing and masks
