KSU VIRTUAL COMMENCEMENT: The Kent State University alumni family will grow by more than 2,500 new graduates as the university holds its fall commencement. The accomplishments of the fall class of 2020 will be recognized with a virtual commencement recognition ceremony 11 a.m. Saturday, in accordance with Gov. Mike DeWine’s order to prohibit mass gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, 2,552 degrees will be conferred, consisting of 590 associate degrees, 1,572 bachelor’s degrees, 353 master’s degrees, 35 doctoral degrees and two educational specialist degrees.

FOOD GIVEAWAY: Beulah Baptist Church, 570 Sherwood Ave., Youngstown, will have a food giveaway 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Food will be distributed until it runs out.

FOOD GIVEAWAY: Nevels Temple Church. 939 Elm St., Youngstown, will host a 500 free food box giveaway at 1:30 p.m. today.

FOOD GIVEAWAY: Cornerhouse Christian Church, 6954 Ridge Road, Hubbard, will host a nonperishable food giveaway noon to 2 p.m. Friday. People needing items are to pull into the back parking lot to the door with the awning, People are asked to stay in their vehicle and volunteers will place bags in the car.

TOY DONATIONS: The newly formed band, Ravine, composed of Frank Toncar of Cortland, Reese Maslen of Boardman, and Hobie Butcher of Salem, are collecting new and lightly used toys to donate to the Children’s Services agencies of Trumbull and Mahoning counties.

ROCKET LEAGUE TOURNAMENT: The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown is seeking participants for a Rocket League Esports Tournament at 4 p.m. Dec. 18. Participants will compete with students across the country in a safe environment.

JCC tournaments guarantee at least two matches and prizes for winning teams. Register by the day of the event at jccyoungstown.org/esports. Participants can play in the JCC Esports Arena, 505 Gypsy Lane, or virtually.

The tournament is free for JCC members and $10 for nonmembers. Open play is offered for ages 8 and older in the Esports Arena Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All games are available, but each night has a specific game for organized play. Games are subject to change.

Esports staff are on hand to supervise and assist kids with the equipment and game play.

SPECIAL DELIVERY: Youngstown Parks and Recreation Department will hold a special delivery from Santa and Mrs. Claus 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 19 for children ages 2 to 10. Limited spots are available. Registration by Friday is required by calling the park office at 330-742-8711. For the safety of all involved, facial coverings are required.

PAINT AND SIP: The Paul and Yetta Gluck School of Visual Arts at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown is offering a Hot Cocoa Sip and Paint for all ages from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Dec. 15 at the JCC, 505 Gypsy Lane, or virtually.

Participants will sip hot cocoa as they learn to paint a winter wonderland. The cost is $25 for members and $32 for nonmembers.

MEAL DISTRIBUTION: The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, in collaboration with Children’s Hunger Alliance, is distributing ready-to-eat meals available for pickup for ages 18 and younger at two library branches, Newport and Michael Kusalaba libraries 2 to 6 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 2 to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The libraries are closed on Sunday, but meals for Sundays and holidays can be picked up in advance. The food packages consist of non-perishable offerings.
