HONORING VETERANS WITH FREE HAIRCUTS: For the 10th consecutive Veterans Day, all 10 area Great Clips locations will offer free haircuts to military veterans.

In 2019, area Great Clips cut hair for more than 500 veterans, active duty service personnel and reservists.

If a veteran, reservist or active-duty service member cannot make it into the salon Nov. 11, they or someone on their behalf can stop in at Great Clips for a certificate to use any time before the end of the year.

Hours vary by location but are generally 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

MILTON AUXILIARY TO MEET: Lake Milton American Legion Auxiliary will meet 7 p.m. today at American Legion Hall. Wearing masks and social distancing will be in effect for the meeting.

Members are collecting hats and gloves to be distributed to local school children. Adult hats, gloves and socks also are being collected to be distributed to veterans through the Youngstown Veterans Administration Clinic.

Lynette Cadle, children and youth chair, is collecting aluminum tabs from members and the community. The tabs are delivered to Akron Children’s Hospital to be used to help patients in need. Bring bags of tabs to the meeting.

HALL OF FAME: The Ohio Department of Veterans Services, the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame Executive Committee and the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame Foundation will host the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame Class of 2020 induction ceremony 10 a.m. Thursday.

In lieu of a traditional public ceremony, the event will be held virtually and include a compilation of individual recognition of all 20 members of the class. The inductees are being honored for their service to their communities after military service.

The ceremony video will be available at OhioVets.gov or OhioChannel.org beginning the week of Thanksgiving.

CONDUCTOR PROGRAM: The Jewish Community Center will host a virtual event “Creativity Against the Odds: Alma Rose and the Women’s Orchestra of Auschwitz” 6 to 7 p.m. today.

The event will feature Karin Hendrickson, internationally renowned conductor / curator. Hendrickson is originally from Lawrence County, Pa., and will discuss the life and legacy of Alma Rose, niece of Gustav Mahler.

CIRCLE OF FRIENDS AWARDS GRANT: The Children’s Mental Health Circle of Friends Foundation has released a $3,500 grant to the Helms Foundation to assist them in the purchase of art therapy supplies to distribute to Mahoning Valley art therapists providing art therapy to children with or at risk for emotional and behavioral disorders.
